The Art of Betsy and Alex

April 24th was a fine day to get married… a little cool and breezy… just the kind of Portland day you hope for in the Spring. These two are new to our city and have completely embraced it… I think they will be a good addition. In their first meeting, Betsy made it clear that she wasn’t looking for the typical details shots… no shoes or lingerie fluff for her. When I got to the hotel, she very carefully arranged her watch on the lilacs in the room… then she put it in the pocket of her marvelous dress.

Betsy and Alex made the old fashioned choice to not see each other before the ceremony… it required a little fancy dancing to keep them from running into each other at the Art Museum but we had the ever talented Molli of Bon Soiree keeping tabs on them. These two hired a veritable dream team of vendors and it made for a great run… Vibrant Table staged the room and catered a great meal. Page, also of Vibrant Table, designed the lovely floating tulips. Eric Wright, Portland’s consummate music man, had the dance floor jammed and jumping all night!

It always seems to go by so fast… even with all those watches. ;0)

In the garden with Gretchen and Alastair

Gretchens-_lace Ali and Gretchen met and fell in love at Oxford University… they came to their Portland nuptials trailing traces of English Gardens, Vivaldi, Bach and Robert Frost… a beautiful and charming wedding. The lightly modified Anglican ceremony, the traditional English morning suits (complete with proper cravats brought from England) mixed well with the uniquely Portland locations. Graceful is the word that comes to mind thinking back on the whole day.

Great hair by Micah Clark, from Evolution Hair Design and makeup by Meghan Stoll-Kaufnman.

The ceremony was held at The Rhododendron Garden… amazing flowers by Page Winograd and lovely music by The Collage Trio.
The party followed at Portland’s Art MuseumVibrant Table Catering made a cozy space out of the Sunken Ballroom and designed a great Vegetarian feast.

The Bakery Bar made the sculptural cake and the chocolate favors were from Sahagun.

Allwright Music was the talented DJ at the party… Les Partna behind the mic… excellent!

Many, many pictures follow if you are interested.

Magic in the vineyard…

mt374blogMeg and Trevor had originally planned to have their wedding at Portland’s Art Museum. They found out that the Park Blocks would be home to a huge event that day…music and food and many, many people. Decisions were made to move their wedding. Long story short, a family friend offered them his private vineyard near Dundee…a pretty space lined with trees and rimmed with lines of grapes up the slope. No electric, no bathrooms, no nothing. Oh my.

Well, you might say…that seems like a lot of work. You’d be right.

This most perfect day came  together because they hired the best of the best. Vibrant Table Catering brought in everything, including the must have checkered dance floor. Francoise Weeks was given free rein to make flower art…everywhere you turned, there was another unique floral gift. Andrea Hoyt , of August Veils was on hand to keep Meg’s dress fresh and the bridesmaids up to speed…she is wonderful to work with!  There were members  of the Portland Opera for the ceremony and Pepe & the Bottle Blondes to keep the dancers warm later. Salmon on the grill and amazing little dessert plates to go with  the rice krispies cake. Soiree did a phenomenal job of lacing together all of  the pieces…I mean this party ran like a good clock!

Take a look…at the end of the day, this is about hiring people you can trust to do what they do best.
