Adeline Farms is a nice stretch of country road just east of Woodland, Washington. By the time you roll through the gates, you will have left the city and it’s cares behind.
Jenny and Muriel are partners in this property and have showered it with love and attention… all quite evident at their own wedding there last summer. It was an over the top event in many ways but I think it was great that they tried it on for size as an actual wedding couple before they really opened it to the public. The amount of inside information gleaned from that day has no doubt made them a really good team at running Adeline Farms as a venue that people will really enjoy. This is barn weddings with a great dash of class… add that to a B&B rental on the property and you can start to imagine a long and comfortable weekend for you and your guests. Some people even camp there although I think it should be considered “glamping”… they have retrofitted some vintage trailers available to guests. There is plenty of room for tents, too.
Maybe it’s a Northwest thing but the vibe you have in a relaxed crowd at a place where you can put your feet up really makes a great wedding possible. At the fancy hotels or the country clubs, it’s way more straitlaced… certain behaviors are expected. At Adeline Farms, you can take off your shoes and pet the cat while you wait for the fireworks to start. ;0)
There is a shop across from where I get my hair cut and the display always includes a cool retro sort of dress… the kind of dress that sets my mind wandering a little. I can’t imagine that I am the only one affected that way… this particular party dress really caught me one winter day. These are vintage pieces but I am absolutely sure that they have a new adventure or two ahead of them.
Imagine a dress… a young woman in a dreamy new dress. Her sweetheart is taking her to dinner and a late concert… it’s a special evening. Somewhere along the way, a question is asked and a world opens before her… yes is the answer!
If you happen to be getting engaged or married in this wonderful new year, now is the time to get some of your plans firmed up… I’d be happy to help! ;0)
Two days ago, Emily and James and good-dog Davey motored to the quiet beach at Gearhart to spend a little time in front of my camera. Since they are getting married in a few weeks at Gray Gables, we went for something a little more organic for an engagement session. It seems like the summer has flown by since we met… we didn’t expect it to follow us to the beach but it did… what a glorious day! Davey agreed with a resounding High Five before he went off to check out the poodles near the surf line.
Well… not totally unexpected. Madeline and Lee knew the dress would be there, though only for the dancing. Her mom was blown away when Madeline changed out of her long slinky gown, mid reception, into this snappy little number from so long ago. In fact, when she had it altered they found some rice in the hem. Imagine that rice just hanging out over the years, waiting for the daughter to grow up and decide to wear the dress… how cool is that?!
Mom’s dress was great for dancing and Madeline owned it… just like she did the entire day. What a great time we had!
Take your wedding for the ride of your life… hire the right people, live happily ever after.
This warm afternoon wedding was a completely homespun affair… all of it played out in their yard and nearby neighborhood. Vibrant Table took care of the set up and catering… fabulous food and flowers, as always, but the scope was very comfortable and personal. There was no pretense here… the afternoon played into the soft late light with real people and sweet exchanges… I love these days. As a photographer, I can count on good images when everyone is relaxed and the time sort of spins by without too much of a written schedule. ;0)
This park, this ball field is right down the street from their great old house. I think they will live there a long time and they will remember the brass band playing Beatles’ tunes in their front yard as they walked out from under the tree where they said their vows.
Years will go by… someone will chance on this picture and there will be a recognition and a sweet smile.
