The lacy wedding dress was hanging in the window above the bed in a tiny space full of bridesmaids… supposedly out of the general foot traffic and harm’s way. Champagne was being passed and the girls were helping each other with zippers and sashes as Ripley made his way to the bed… he had noticed something new in the room and, as cats will, decided to check it out. Halfway across the bottom of the train, his claws picking up bits of lace, Christie, my cool and collected bride, caught him up just in time. The look on his face tells me he wasn’t expecting to be noticed. Such a silly cat. ;0)
Christie put on her lacy wedding dress and got married to Matt in his fabulous suit on a hot afternoon in late July … I can’t wait to share the whole day with this couple! They were a lot of fun!
Frankie pretty much runs the house. He certainly tries to run my office as well. Part of his job description as Office Manager is to exercise me. I have to get out of my chair at regular intervals to feed him cat crackers. We also have an aerobic routine involving mopping the floor every other day because the muddy footprints are becoming dimensional. The Stand in Front of the Monitor pose is the cracker request mostly, although he will use it to ask me to get off of the phone, too.
The other day, I rearranged some of my shelving so that I could put my external hard drives in a less cat accessible space… Frankie decided that he had a better use for one of the empty cubbies.
I have since taken that space back but you can bet there is a new mutiny brewing in his furry brain.
The street was quiet… no one rushing off to work this Christmas morning. The sun playing in the bedroom curtains gave me a chance to relax and reflect a little… it has been a year to give us all pause.
Normally, I am a pie eyed optimist and I’d like to say all of my friends are happy and well but the economy and general distress have been rough on everyone. None of us will miss 2009. The uncertainty needs to subside. The smiling has to come back.
I don’t mind learning to rein in the spending habits of the last years… I had a good run for a bit. On the other hand, it is very uncomfortable to have dipped below the happy medium. It will turn around… I am sure of it. Meanwhile, we have to get up every day and go about the business of making a life.
Got to give it your best shot.
I am thankful for a roof over my head and a good man to share it.
I am thankful for family, friends and nice strangers.
I am thankful for fractious cats.
I am always thankful for time to think.
