Best Friends Forever

Your best friends should definitely be gathered into a group portrait at your wedding… it’s a no brainer! Some of my clients ask ahead and put it on the to-do list. Some get to their party and realize that it is a good idea… either way, it’s something you may not be able to do as often as you like. If you were to ask me, I’d say to try for this shot right before dinner. The wedding and the cocktail hour have happened and everyone is in a fine mood by then… the pressure is off and the smiles will be easy. Give your photographer a minute or two to find the right place for the size of your group and the rest of it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. The image will go down in all of your history books forever. ;0)

This tribe of best friends had a heck of a good party at the end of August. The wedding was in a private shared garden and then they moved the crowd to the beautiful rooftop of the Eastside Exchange… a perfect venue for a Portland summer night.

Come make some history with me… it will be a gas!

The Best Seat in the House

Remember when you could climb a tree in a dress and kick off your red shoes? I do. Not that my family attended a bunch of weddings when I was a kid but the whole option of having a different vantage point than the grown-ups… it is a very special privilege. At some point they expect you to settle back to earth and behave accordingly. For the lucky summers you have, you should play it to the hilt and the parental types should let you fly as safely as they can.

This was during the cocktail hour between the ceremony and sitting down to dinner… usually it is where guests get to mingle and say hello to the bride and groom… a very nice break between parts of the day where you are expected to sit up straight and behave a certain way. ;0)

I love my job… if you would like to talk about getting married like real people, let me know… I have lots of input if you need it.

Moonrise Over Chairs

The cocktail hour was rolling at my back when I stood on the veranda at Zenith Vineyards for a quiet minute… the air was October crisp on my face. A cool part of my job is to be responsible for bringing home the parts of the day that the lovers may not see… a chance to give them a little added dimension. I must confess, though, that I would have taken this just for myself in any case. Why not gather the pretty parts of any given day?
