Home is Where the Hearts Are

Home, your personal space, is a great place to have an engagement session. Sure, the trend is to go stand in a set of railroad tracks with a vintage suitcase but is that really you? Do you really want a headless portrait that shows off your socks? Instead, your home has that insanely cool lamp in the living room and that great rusty gate in the back yard… the one that the previous artist-owner built before you bought the house… before you made it your home.

No doubt, I repeat myself on this particular topic, but I think it’s important to keep a sense of your history alive in your photographs. Looking back through the family photos in my life I can see the homes we made, the cars we drove and the various dogs and cats we loved. None of that was faked or out of true… real life can be pretty cool.
Besides, walking on the railroad tracks is against the law and common sense. ;0)

Getting married? Ask me anything.

#lovewins! Facebook lit up last Friday morning like shooting stars… it had just been decided at SCOTUS when I got to my desk. It was like watching all the lights come on in a really big city, a few at a time until the skyline is glowing. :0) The hashtag #lovewins ruled the day and I was gratified to see that so many people were happy about this decision. I don’t think I have seen a kinder day in the social feed in a while.

These happy couples have all been married in the last few years… the images were from their engagement sessions. For a couple of them it was more of an uphill battle than seems possible. I cannot imagine someone telling me I can’t marry the one I love! Needless to say, there should never have been a rule that says any of them should be treated differently than the other. I’m very proud to see our country level this particular field… maybe we can get rid of all discriminations if we keep moving forward.

Now that’s it’s just marriage, let’s talk about yours, ok? ;0)

Love on the Wing

Maribelle and Anthony were about to get married in the Philippines… she called to see if we could do something in a vintage mood with a little traveling flavor added to the mix. We brainstormed a little over the phone and then I called the nice people at the Pearson Air Museum at Fort Vancouver… they were very helpful. With a little planning, we were able to use the spaces to the best advantage in a small time window.

They came in suitable dress and we spent a couple of hours around the airfield and Officer’s Row. The light was great and they were about as much in love as anyone could want. The best engagement sessions happen when the lovers truly engage in the process.
