Flanked by the bright pink Voodoo Doughnuts boxes, Matthew makes a bold correction… his opening cut had flipped a piece of doughnut onto the table and Suzanne’s look was enough to alter his original course. She started laughing and the crowd went wild! ;0)
Voodoo Doughnuts, like cupcakes and pies, are on the rise as legitimate wedding treats… they are certainly less formal than a cake and it’s interesting to see how people respond when the sweets are offered. With a cake, each guest will likely have a piece. One. With almost any other type of dessert, it seems like they will have at least two servings since multiple flavors are more obvious. Or maybe doughnuts and cupcakes make us revert to being kids again when one was never enough…. yeah, I think that may be the actual answer. ;0)
Happy to observe and share the culture of our times!
Last Saturday brought us to a bright, breezy wedding at a sunny farm in Newberg… high in the hills on our first truly hot summer day this year. We had to do some dancing around our original schedule to accommodate the flavor of the light. There was no place to go until after dinner… that’s when the sun had gotten low enough to give us this lovely light for the softer portraits. What I like is that Betsy and Rob trusted me to make it work. We slipped out between dinner and the toasts… we only needed these 10 minutes but we couldn’t have had them at any other point in the day.
Keep your plans flexible if you can, you won’t regret it!
Maribelle and Anthony were about to get married in the Philippines… she called to see if we could do something in a vintage mood with a little traveling flavor added to the mix. We brainstormed a little over the phone and then I called the nice people at the Pearson Air Museum at Fort Vancouver… they were very helpful. With a little planning, we were able to use the spaces to the best advantage in a small time window.
They came in suitable dress and we spent a couple of hours around the airfield and Officer’s Row. The light was great and they were about as much in love as anyone could want. The best engagement sessions happen when the lovers truly engage in the process.
I realize that this is from a wedding I shot just a few days ago but I already know that it will be a favorite image of mine for a long time. Getting to know Elena and Leigh has been a rare treat… they fit each other to perfection. Maybe it’s a little because they have known each other for 14 years but I think it’s more that they are complete equals in the relationship. The wedding day was stellar… the flavor of it sweet and simple. I am so very happy to have been a part of it.
The cast and crew get a lot of credit, too. Running the show, clipboards in hand, Samantha and Krissa from Soiree. Solabee crafted a welcome fresh take on decorating the fireplace on the Ecotrust roof and Simpatica put on a marvelous spread for all, even with the monster stair climb in the mix. ;0)
Come talk to me about your wedding plans… I’d be happy to tell you what I know.
