Imagine the Day

Imagine the day ahead of you… the day you thought would never arrive.
Nicole settled into the limo for the ride to the church and she actually paused for a moment to drink it in. Jon was pulling out of the driveway with his Best Man in the shiny blue convertible, both sharply dressed… looking for all the world like something out of the Kennedy years. The family groups and the wedding party photos had been taken care of in the morning garden, a small brunch had been shared and everyone was now traveling towards the rest of the day. I imagine that each of them was thinking about the day ahead and all were looking forward to it.

Imagine hiring a true professional to help you remember all of the little parts of this marvelous day! ;0)

Sexy Boy Handsome Team

Sexy Boy Handsome Team is how the business cards read… they were handed out to the guests just before the toast by the Best Man at Matt and Christie’s wedding. Apparently, that was the subject heading in the e mail that Matt sent out to his groomsmen as the wedding was being planned. The toast that went with it and the ones that followed really played up the fact that these guys are all really good friends. The vibe was easy going and the suits were really cute… the women were cut from the same cloth. All of them, bride and groom included, were a treat on that warm sunny day last summer.

I imagine this crowd keeping in touch as the years roll out… I imagine kids and dogs and some age creeping in but I think that the core will hold for a long time. I hope somewhere in those far away times that they will revisit these pictures and remember a summer day when they were very young.

Making some plans for your own wedding? Make it as personal as possible… you won’t regret it.

Imagine

Imagine inventing your wedding as you run through the hills of Portland! That’s exactly what Jen and Mike did and it was a very special celebration. Every day that they run, they take the tram up from the South waterfront near their home and connect with the trail at the top. As the summer evolved, they kept me in the loop, adding bits of their story to our photo plans. On the big day, I walked with the ladies to the tram and we rode up in excited secrecy… he wouldn’t see her until she walked down the aisle. Getting off the tram, we could see the ceremony site below on the beautiful deck at OHSU. Her brother proudly walked her down the stairs and up through the smiling crowd to Mike. Imagine Mt. Hood in the smokey distance and the whole city going on about it’s normal affairs while these two, high on the hill, promised each other forever.

Later this year, they will go to Paris for their honeymoon… I imagine them up in the Eiffel Tower remembering this day. ;0)

Anticipation

Anticipation was the name of the game on this sunny Saturday afternoon. Amos was waiting for his Shannon in a hallway at the top of the Indigo building. He stood a little straighter and tried not to fidget every time the elevator made a sound but he was so ready to see her! His face was changing from serious to sunny as his thoughts swirled… he didn’t say much and he didn’t pay much attention to anything else… just like a man in love probably ought to be.

As I stood with him in that hallway, I imagined her long ride up in the elevator, anticipating the way it must feel to see each other for the first time on their wedding day. What I know for certain is that the smiles began in earnest when she stepped into that hallway… smiles that stayed lit for most of the day. I think they have a long life ahead of them… more smiles than not. ;0)

I’m so glad that I get to share this kind of day with so many great people… it is a privilege in every sense of the word. It really is a fine sort of work I get to do!

Beach Symphony

I come to every wedding ready to document the entire day… the things requested and the many pieces I see that make the story. The random parts that appear in front of my camera, the ones that make my senses sing, are the ones I live for.
This little procession up from the damp beach in Gearhart… ecstatic mom on the rise and the Oregon Symphony guy waiting for the couple and their furry companion to pass… I couldn’t have planned this in any way… just have to track it through the eyepiece. It is a very favorite image of mine and I can’t imagine the day without it.

“Keep a third eye watching behind you. You never know when you’re making a memory… they will wish they were here together again someday…”

It was Thirty Years Ago Today…

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

~ John Lennon
