A Symphony for Love

Imagine a symphony on the beach. Imagine a glorious October day at that beach. One planned and the other pure and outrageous luck!

The rain was sideways as we drove to this wedding in Gearhart… buckets of rain, huge driving sheets of it. The living room at the beautiful beach house was staged for the inevitable indoor ceremony and three members of the Oregon Symphony were setting up in a tiny corner near the kitchen. Upstairs, the family members were all in varying stages of preparation… including Ali. She was pretty serene as the makeup and hair stylists finished their work. She can see the ocean from the second floor and the wind rippling the long stretch of tall grasses. She didn’t say much… she was still working on her vows as the ceremony time inched closer.

About the time she pulled on her dress, the sun came out. Downstairs the house was filling with her guests. She came down the stairs, traded her sweet pumps for the black Wellies by the door and declared that the ceremony would commence on the beach.
It was an incredible day!!

I come to every wedding ready to document the day… the things requested and the many pieces I see that make the story. The random parts that appear in front of my camera, the ones that make my senses sing, are the ones I live for.
This little procession up from the damp beach in Gearhart… ecstatic mom on the rise and Symphony Guy waiting for the couple and their furry companion to pass… I couldn’t have planned for this in any way… just have to track it through the eyepiece. It is a very favorite image of mine and I can’t imagine the day without it.

Springtime in Portland

Springtime in Portland is one of the most beautiful seasons we have and we all know it’s because of the rain. Sometimes it actually doesn’t rain. If you have a venue combination that is mostly inside, then you have a fine chance to visit a park or use your own garden for a small portion of your photography. The colors and the greenery are so lush and, when combined with the soft light on an overcast day, well, it’s hard to beat. This lovely shot at Peninsula Park was a stop between the church and the hotel reception on a sweet day in late May.

Since our summers are becoming so over the top hot, I’d like to see more springtime weddings on the calendar… its a sweet look.
