Fairytales Do Come True

Fairytales may not happen to everyone you meet but you know it when you see it. Elena and Leigh have been in love since grade school… they knew early on they were a true fit for each other. When I first met them a few years ago, I had no idea how special this bond was. We started with an engagement session and I realized that it was going to be a deep and important relationship for me, as well. The wedding was perfect and personal and we have since done belly pictures and baby pictures and family sessions. In all of that, I feel like we are related… like we can talk about anything.
I am inspired by these two every time I get to spend a little time with them.

Find the one who truly loves you and love them with everything you’ve got… the world will be a better place for everyone. ;0)

Time for Love

Time is the name of the game in any relationship. Sometimes it seems like a hurdle to jump and sometimes it’s a runaway train but if you are part of a solid team, you can face it together. Ty and Lamar were partners for 10 years before they were able to marry legally… that’s a long time to want something you can’t have. When the day finally came, I was caught many times by how perfect a fit they were together. We did this portrait a little before the ceremony at the Academy Chapel and that gave them a chance for some quiet time before the whole crowd thing that a wedding becomes.

I am happy to see that our society is moving in the right direction… it’s past time for a balanced world.

A Classic Portrait at the Eastside Exchange

A classic portrait will stand the test of time as will the best relationships. Robert and Christopher were able to officially put rings on their 24 years together last Saturday in a bright, breezy wedding ceremony on the roof deck of the new Eastside Exchange. They had the first wedding to be celebrated there, splitting it between the sunny roof and the well designed ballroom a couple of floors below. When the cocktail hour was winding down, I kept them back for a few minutes of private portraits. Since the roof deck is wide open to the sky, the perfect backdrop was the side of the elevator shaft… it gave us a good balance of light and dark for a simple, classic portrait.

The Eastside Exchange is a sweet new venue at the east end of the Burnside Bridge… the views of Portland’s waterfront and skyline are wonderful! Vibrant Table’s Kurt Beadell is the man behind the curtain in this new venue so you can bet the events will run like clockwork and the food is always stellar.

I love that my job is in a different place every day!

Wild Blue and Dancing, Too

There are perfect days in Oregon and last Saturday was one of them. There are also perfect weddings and that was true of this one. Allie and Matt brought such confidence in their relationship to this wedding… it bodes very well for a long and happy marriage. It’s always a treat to see two people so well suited for each other.

Mt. Hood played hide and seek on this beautiful property above the river in Estacada and the nature of the place made it possible for everyone to relax and enjoy the day. What could be better than a party with all of the people you love in a place like this? ;0)

They had their first dance right before dinner and the afternoon flowed on from there… I have to give a great deal of credit to their planner, Angela Orr of Simply Elegant Occasions… she was everywhere she needed to be and because of that, there were no glitches. All in all, a very perfect day!

The Real Thing

I realize that this is from a wedding I shot just a few days ago but I already know that it will be a favorite image of mine for a long time. Getting to know Elena and Leigh has been a rare treat… they fit each other to perfection. Maybe it’s a little because they have known each other for 14 years but I think it’s more that they are complete equals in the relationship. The wedding day was stellar… the flavor of it sweet and simple. I am so very happy to have been a part of it.

The cast and crew get a lot of credit, too. Running the show, clipboards in hand, Samantha and Krissa from Soiree. Solabee crafted a welcome fresh take on decorating the fireplace on the Ecotrust roof and Simpatica put on a marvelous spread for all, even with the monster stair climb in the mix. ;0)

Come talk to me about your wedding plans… I’d be happy to tell you what I know.
